Marion Lane has solidly immersed herself in the traditions of abstract art that have marked the 20th century as one of great artistic achievement and-breakthroughs. Yet the firmness of her commitment to Modernism does not denote stasis- consistent throughout the flow of her artwork is an exciting sense of movement and dynamism. Her artistic exploration continues as she responds to the push and pull of life by translating her experience, thought and evolution through her work.

Her early career began with a series of beautiful abstract expressionist paintings in the late fifties, one of which won a Crumbacher Award from a Brooklyn Museum Alumni Exhibit. She has since experimented with a variety of materials and themes, including a feminist period in the late seventies and early eighties.

Ms. Lane has an M.F.A. from Rutgers University, and studied art at the Art Students League, Pratt Institute, and the Brooklyn Museum Art School in New York. She has had eleven one person exhibits and participated in over fifty group exhibits at museums and galleries.

Marion Lane was recently awarded a Robert Florshiem Art Fund Grant in support of her upcoming retrospective exhibit at the Westbeth Gallery. Her other awards include two New Jersey State Council on the Arts Fellowship Grants, an Edward Albee Foundation Fellowship and seven awards given in juried exhibits at museums and galleries. Her work has been reviewed in newspapers and art publications including Arts Magazine.
