CONJURING AN ANACHRONISM

on a wall
in a closet
in the house where i grew up
is written in indelible magic marker
the date: oct. '58

hidden by a grey car coat
now many sizes too small
a game of monopoly
the cards of chance
& park place missing
a hand-made radio i
never got to work
& yesterday's settled dust.

i think one day
an instant before i die
i'll find the door
thru which time goes
& follow it

sneaking thru
just as it shuts
& locks tight
all the tired
half-remembered dreams
it takes with it.
