    Opening Reception:

2010

Westbeth gallery is pleased to present
this mid-career survey of Chris Twomey's
multi-faceted artwork and a group

exhibition by members of the Core Group,
curated by Jayne Holsinger, which includes
the work of Barbara Ellmann, Mariah Fee,
Jayne Holsinger, Sara Klar, Bonnie
Steinsnyder, Anita Thacher, Judith
Uehling, and Eleanor Weber.  A
catalogue of the exhibition which
includes an essay by Eleanor Heartney
will accompany the exhibition.

The '"Core Group" is a consortium of
artists who have collaborated on various
projects over the past 15 years. In this
collaborative effort, Twomey is the first
artist in the group to be featured in a
constellation of group shows.

Chris Twomey's formidable body of
work, is inspired by themes of origins
and identity.  Works are organized in series,
each series becoming its own conceptual
riff on a theme. Twomey's bold and restless
imagination takes the viewer from the
beginnings of life, with huge digitized
baby forms, to far into the future, where
beast and human emerge, commenting
on the intersection of science with
revelations about human nature.
Throughout Twomey's career, this
search for identity within the flux
of time, context and environment has
been consistent.

Twomey's most recent solo exhibiton
"'Astral Fluff " showed at Creon Gallery
in March 2010. Other exhibitions have
been reveiwed in Art in America, M-
the New York Art World, The Scientist.

CNN news featured her work on a
segment of Anderson Cooper.

Twomey with a Masters in Fine
Art from Pratt, has received  CAPS
and Ford grants, and awards for
experimental TV work, and an
American Film Insitute Directing
internship.

Twomey's gene mapping
offers a present-day
formulation of life's
mystery.
